Managing a school field trip

At any time, the teacher creates a role called Aquarium Field Trip and invite parents to drive. The role of drivers has stipulations, like having insurance.

Parents show up and their cars are added to the hierarchy.

      • Aquarium Field Trip (Status: Active, Location xyz)
        • Sam’s Car (Status: Loading, Location: School)
        • Morgan’s Car (Status: Loading, Location: School)

The teacher is the current steward of the kids and is in charge of adding them to Sam’s role. There is always a chain of custody with everything.

      • Aquarium Field Trip (Status: Active, Location xyz)
        • Sam’s Car (Status: Loading, Location: School)
          • Liz (Status: Fine, Location: Sam’s Car)
          • Ben (Status: Fine, Location: Sam’s Car)
        • Morgan’s Car (Status: Loading, Location: School)
          • Mark (Status: Fine, Location: Morgan’s Car)
          • Lisa (Status: Fine, Location: Morgan’s Car)

On the return to school, Sam’s car gets caught up in massive traffic. So Sam updates her role to “Stuck in big traffic”. All active stewards of each kid immediately get notified. Parents, grandparents, sitters, other parents who were going to host a play date after school, etc.

          • Lisa (Status: Fine, Location: Morgan’s Car)

As the kids are dropped off, stewardship is transferred from the drivers to the next steward.
